Seperti dikutip dari postingan facebook pribadi CEO WhatsApp Jan Koum mengatakan "Hari ini, untuk pertama kalinya, Anda dan jutaan pengguna akan bisa untuk menggunakan WhatsApp di web browser. (WhatsApp) versi web hanyalah perpanjangan dari smartphone kita. Ini artinya semua pesan Anda masih aktif pada ponsel Anda," tulis Koum.
WhatApp versi desktop ini diberi nama "WhatsApp Web" dimana sebenarnya ini bukan aplikasi biasa namun sebuah add on atau Extensions dari web browser PC kita yang memungkinkan kita mengirim dan membaca pesan langsung dari web browser, namun web browser yang didukung saat ini baru web browser atau peramban "Google Chrome" dan baru pengguna di Android, Windows Phone, dan BlackBerry yang bisa menikmati fitur baru ini. Pengguna gadget berbasis iOS harus masih bersabar.
Untuk bisa ber-WhatsApp di PC, kita cukup mengunjungi https://web.whatsapp.com pada browser Google Chrome lalu pada smartphone kita, buka aplikasi WhatApp (contoh pada Android) buka Menu -> WhatApp Web lalu scan QR Code yang tampil pada halaman web tersebut, maka otomatis kita log ini ke akun WhatApp kita.Untuk mengaktifkan fitur ini kita harus sudah menggunakan aplikasi WhatsApp terbaru, yaitu versi 2.11.498. Selain ber-WhatsApp, melalui fitu ini juga kita bisa mngetahui kondisi status baterai smartphone kita
